Human evolution timeline

Thanks to DNA the human evolution picture is getting clearer. Humans and Chimpanzees diverged from a single ancestral gene pool through a complex process that took around 4 million years. Researchers from the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard were able to learn when and a little bit about how the two species spilt apart.

A new study shows that boy monkeys prefer toy cars and girls prefer dolls.  I guess this is not such a shock since monkeys are our closet ancester.

This interesting discovery is one of many behavioral differences between the sexes that scientists are exploring with the latest tools of genetics and neuroscience.

These differences date far back in evolutionary history to the time before humans and monkeys separated from their common ancestors. … Continue reading

This is an interesting article about what women find attractive in men. It only confirms what evolutionary psychologist has been telling us about women during ovulation. Women have been shown to become more promiscuous during the time of ovulation. What I find interesting is, that men have an innate ability to sense danger during a women’s most fertile time.

Good, healthy, masculine genes are still coveted, but once… Continue reading

The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature by Matt Ridley

The Red Queen raised many interesting questions about where we came from and why we reproduce sexually. Ridley proposes that we reproduce sexually because of the randomness of genes which are inherited by sexually produced offspring. Diseases and viruses have been our biggest enemy since the beginning of time. Sexually produced offspring have allowed us to win this… Continue reading
