What is Cocktail Attire? We have received a few requests on how one should dress for a party where cocktail attire is required.
Cocktail attire for men usually means a suit (tie optional if your shirt is bold), sports coat, and nice slacks.

Cocktail attire or cocktail dress for women usually means a short dress (preferably not a dress you would wear to work).

We prefer a black or, grey or some other dark color. Dress according to how formal the event is. You can spice up your cocktail outfit with accessories, but less is more here.

Cocktail attire for women these days give her some latitude — a dressy pantsuit, a nice skirt and top, etc.

Lastly consider the season; dark or muted fabrics are best for fall and winter. You can lighten up a little come spring or summer; choose light fabrics like linen or cotton as well as lighter shades.
