The Drake night club is overrated. Four friends and I (2 Hispanic and 3 black females) went for the first time around 11 o’clock and the lines were long. Thinking it would be a legit club, we waited probably ten minutes before the bouncer called us up to cut the line. We had no problems with our ids, and went right in. However the girl behind us had an I.d that looked nothing like her and the bouncer let her in. The club is pretty nice, two levels and was really packed. But it is really lame. The music was horrible, EVERYONE was standing around, no dancing at all, other than two grown men having a dance battle. Really, who does that at clubs? I’m 18 and would never think to do that. Everyone there was Hispanic, there is no variety in race whatsoever. No offense, but I felt as if I were in Mexico. We were there for 45 minutes and left. If your type of fun is standing around looking at other people standing around, shitty music, and feeling as if you just crossed the border, than Drake is perfect for you.

Me and my friends when to the drake last night the drinks are a lil high but ok the music wuz horrible, rough crowd especialy girls walk around pushing ppl to get thru like there in middle school, ghetto ass he’ll crowd I guess is cuz 18 and up a lot big girls thinking there hot don’t plan to there any time soon

My girlfriends and I were able to get into the Drake the night that Josie Stevens (Frankie Dashwood) was there. We are big fans. We were dissapointed because of the rough crowd and also that Josie and her husband Steve Stevens are much older looking in person. “About 20 years older” They just did not fit in with the young hip hop hispanic crowd. We had a better time at Pandora.

I am a Hispanic female and have gone to the Drake many times without any problems getting in! It’s one of my favorite places to go. One time they refused to let some friends of mine (male) in because of the way they were dressed. I was really upset about that and because I was with them they would not let me in either. The owner said because we were in the same group. So, I guess I now know how that would feel because that 1 night out of maybe 2 dozen times I’ve been there….they gave me a hard time (but in the end he did finally let me in! But it was after the group completely left – drove off, etc!) I haven’t gone in quite a while but mostly because I’ve been checking out other places. And my grudge is gone now so I’ll be back soon! In my opionion, it may be more about how people are dressed rather than race. They want stylish trendy people so that when the yuppies go in there they want walk right back out. Especially since those are the ones that will spend the most money. It’s marketing, that’s all. Don’t be offended…just run over to Pandora or Sawyer Park!

So me and 2 other girls decide after bar hopping, we would go to the Drake bar. Valet was $7 dollars, not bad. It was close to 1am, so we walk up to the “bouncer” (skinny, dorky, gay looking) guy and so I show my ID, then my other friend shows her ID no problem, then the last girl shows her ID and he then asks for a second form of ID, who carries two forms of ID?? He claims she doesn’t look like the person in the picture. Who really looks like their ID picture especially after fixing yourself up to go clubbing. Now I’m guessing they have reached their ethnic quota so we were turned away. After trying to talk to the guy and seeing what the real problem was we were told we were tresspassing so the cops came, I have never been in any kind of trouble with the law, never even in school have I had detention or went to the principals office, but I was handcuffed that night, the most horrible experience ever. Oh did I mention we were all hispanic as was the officer who arrested me! In my recommendation I would say if you like being racially profiled, harassed and arrested go to the Drake bar if you are white or appear to have money go and maybe you may have a good time, but for me I will never even think twice about going to that place again.

Drake is an awesome club to attend, that is if you’re able to get in. The club is highly racist but if you manage to make it past the jerk at the front door, you’re in for a good time. Problem is if you’re not white, or have white people in your group, you’re most likely not getting in and that’s just the straight truth.

The Drake is a fun club… as long as, you are able to get in. I’ve only be able to get in once out of the four times my friends convinced me to go there. Not anymore!

I really thought the time when bars were pregedious againt people was long gone. Well… not at the Drake. I’ve been turned away with my friends 3 times, and we have always complied with the dress code you would expect for nice places. Their best excuse is “tonight we have a private party”. But one time we were turned away suposely because one of them had a Florida ID and the bouncer could not recognize the similarity betwen the picture in the driver’s license and my friend’s face. To me, this are all excuses behind the “extreme” discrimination the Drake has with some of it’s customers. People have to stop going to this club, so that we can teach them a lesson. This is supposed to be America, the land of the free and the land of equality.

Oh dear. First off, people who wait outside clubs in line for hours are losers. Secondly I don’t think it’s the race thing as much as a big freaking group of race thing. I’ve read many reviews that basically said ‘ me and my 15 asian friends we wondering why they wouldn’t let 15 asians in at once’, or 10 black guys, or 5 fat hispanic chicks. You want in because it’s a cool place, then get pissed because you don’t hang with a diverse crowd? Who’s the racist?

I went last night and I was asked for 2nd form of ID, I presented a US Government issued id. I was not allowes to get in because the danm ass did not recognize the governmnet issued id. I should have asked one of the cops about the validity of my second id. Any way What Drake is doing is recial profiling. Which in the long run they will be out of business. they should post a sign that says “whilte only.” Houston is a very diversed city, we will see how long Drake will survive with this attitude, for now I will take my business elsewhere.
