What Percentage of Human Body is Water?

Up to 60 percent of the human body weight is composed of water. Muscle is made up of nearly 75 percent water. Fat is made up of about 50 percent water. Bones are also composed of about 50 percent water.

Every system in your body needs water. Water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

The Institute of Medicine recommends that men consume roughly 3.0 liters (roughly13 cups) of total beverages a day and women consume 2.2 liters (roughly 9 cups) of total beverages a day.
